Butterscotch Latte with Whipped cream

Christmas is the perfect time for sweets, nostalgia, and decadence… but also with some coffee because chasing your one-year old ain’t for the weak. This Butterscotch Latte is is made by literally making butterscotch and then whisking it in to milk and cream and then pairing with your favorite espresso.

Yep, we are making butterscotch!

To make butterscotch, start by melting your butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Once the butter is melted, add brown sugar and stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and the mixture turns a golden-brown color. You will need a candy thermometer because we are going to be heating the sugar butter mixture until it reaches 300 degrees. This is known in candy/toffee making is called the “soft crack” stage”. Sprinkle in a pinch of salt which adds a balanced contrast to the sweetness. Finish by adding a splash of vanilla extract for aromatic richness. Stir the mixture thoroughly and once well combined, your butterscotch is ready to be used as a topping, filling, or flavoring in various desserts. For today’s purpose we are making a butterscotch latte. I linked the candy thermometer I used below if you wanted to purchase it from Amazon.

This Butterscotch Latte is great without the coffee too!

If you aren’t the biggest coffee drinker, I get you! This butterscotch latte is also a delicious festive drink if you are looking for a holiday drink without the espresso.
