Two dishes with Whole30 Shakshuka with Harissa Ground Turkey

Okay, so this Whole30 Shakshuka was completely inspired by the local brunch spot Bay and I went to like a month ago, It’s called Prep and Pastry and everything we got was to die for. If you’re no stranger, you have probably seen my Easy Shakshuka Recipe. It has a ton of summer veg in it and is great! But If you want something a little more hearty, the addition of the Harissa Ground Turkey is about to blow your mind. Now at the brunch spot- they served this baby with feta- but you know how it goes, Whole30 kicked the dairy right out. But, it’s still unbelievably tasty and a great brunch option if you are Whole30 or not. And heck, if you’re not swearing dairy off- go crazy and sprinkle a little feta on it. No one is stopping you.

Harissa Ground Turkey Makes This Whole30 Shakshuka a Great Option Any Time of Day!

Harissa is a North African chili paste. The flavor profile is a little smoky, a little sweet, and a lot of delicious. You can find it most grocery stores. Or you can make your own, the internet has tons and tons of recipes. With the addition of the harissa ground turkey, this Whole30 Shakshuka is hearty enough for any type of day. A great 11:30 AM brunch option, if you ask me!

Switch up your normal egg game with this Whole30 Shakshuka with Harissa Ground Turkey. A hearty, flavorful dish just begging to be added to your brunch spread.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Pound Lean Ground Turkey
  • 1/2 Yellow Onion, diced
  • 2 Cloves of Garlic, minced
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper, cut into matchsticks
  • 28 oz Crushed Tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp No Sugar Added Harissa Paste
  • 1- 1 1/2 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 5 Eggs
  • 1/4 cup, Parsley, chopped
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • Optional: Serve with bread or sweet potato "toasts"

Instructions

1

In a large skillet, add oil, onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Stir while heating on medium for about 4-5 minutes. Veggies should be soft and fragrant. Add ground turkey and cumin. Break up turkey with a wooden spoon. Do this until the Turkey is cooked through.

2

Add Harissa Paste and Crushed Tomatoes, stir to combine and simmer for 8-10 minutes until it starts to thicken. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Using a spoon, create little wells to crack the eggs into. Crack each egg into a well. And cook covered for about 5-8 minutes until eggs are cooked to your liking. I sprinkle a little salt and pepper on each egg. Serve with chopped parsley on top, some sour dough toasts, or sweet po "toasts" for Whole30 peeps.
