Horchata Smoothie with Avocado- The Seasonal Junkie

Tuesdays are always my Friday. Well, for right now at least. And you know what? I’m not even a little bit mad about it. All the things that normal people do on a weekend, I get to do in the middle of the week. Which obviously means… no crowds and usually you can score some good deals.

This morning’s mixture ie: Horchata Smoothie with Avocado blended together by chance. I like that. Horchata by chance. Actually,  I wasn’t even thinking of horchata when I started throwing things into the Ninja this morning. Yes, I do quite frequently have random additions into my morning smoothies. Today turned out awesome. The avocado in this Horchata Smoothie makes it decadent. I’m not even kidding, you kind of think you are drinking a milk shake. I had one sip and consequently had faint reminders of my kitchen days, when the other cooks would whip up a batch of some good ole horchata. Naturally, these were my favorite days.

Traditionally, horchata is a popular Mexican beverage. It is a sweet, rice based drink that pairs perfectly with spicy cuisine.

Now, the make-up of my Horchata Smoothie with Avocado is not exactly the same. For one, this little baby is packed with healthy fats and nutrients. I actually felt full until lunch. Which, if you know me, that is a feat in itself. Your girl likes to eat. And I don’t know if you are a regular avocado consumer or not but, you will start to notice your hair and nails may just get a bit shinier with every avocado you eat. If that is not enough reason to throw some avocado on everything, I don’t know what is.

Anyways, this horchata smoothie with avocado took all of two minutes to make and was absolutely worth it.

Horchata Smoothie with Avocoado

Print Recipe
Serves: 1 Cooking Time: 2-5 Min

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Avocado
  • 1/2 Banana, frozen
  • 1-1.5 cup Choice of Milk (I used Almond)
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 Vanilla Bean, the scrapings from the inside
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 1/2 cup Ice

Instructions

Put all ingredients into to blender

    yes, so much yes! I adore horchata and will eat it any form, especially in smoothie form!
